We have setup a new feature on Workviews being that you can now turn off auto-recalculation. This will allow report developers to make multiple changes to a report in quick succession without having to recalculate or cancel the recalculation of the workview in between each change.

There is a poll attached to this post to determine how we roll this out across the platform and existing customers.

If the poll options are not comprehensive enough for you, please reply to this thread with your thoughts.

looks good Ben, how will this affect the thin client if calculation is set to off, even though I voted third option above, itmight be best to be On for thin client? Will you also have the same setting (on/off) for thin client?

Current plans are to keep the settings consistent between Backend and Frontend. So if automatic recalculation is turned off in the backend, the same will be true in frontend.

Though we are also considering the following options -
  • Ignore the flag on first load in the front-end and always refresh it right away.
  • Ignore the flag completely in front-end so that the Workviews always refresh.
Keen to hear your thoughts on this.

I think you need to at least on thin client
  • Ignore the flag on first load in the front-end and always refresh it right away.
And if it is off- it would be good to somehow indicate a refresh is needed when changing slice, maybe highlight the refresh button a different colour

Hi All,

Just closing this out, we are going with
  • Default Auto-Recalculation to On for existing Workviews and Off for all new Workviews moving forward
The version of MODLR 2.5.740 will adopt the new setting of Auto-recalculation = true for all existing Workviews. From this point forward new Workviews will default to auto-recalculation = false.

We will wait until all customers instances are on 2.5.740 before we patch gateway to implement this feature. As per usual we will roll this out to Early Access ea.modlr.co prior to rolling out on production so that customers can stress test the change.
